Experience

Freelance Data Scientist

May 2025 - Present

Developing computer vision and LLM solutions.

Postdoctoral Researcher and PhD Student

Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence | Oct 2018 - Dec 2024

Built immersive VR environments and ML pipelines to investigate how the brain integrates vision and body motion.

Selected Achievements:

  • Developed a real-time VR system with sub-20ms latency for freely moving rodents.
  • Applied machine learning techniques to analyze large-scale neural and behavioral datasets, uncovering insights into sensory integration in the visual cortex.
  • Featured in Werner Herzog's documentary "Theatre of Thought" and the ZDF program Terra Xplore.
  • Research Fellow

Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience | Jul 2016 - May 2018

Developed real-time computer vision pipelines for neuroimaging data and ran 2-photon calcium imaging experiments.

    Selected Achievements:

    • Second-author publication in Current Biology: Selective enhancement of neural coding in V1 underlies fine-discrimination learning in tree shrew
    • Education

      PhD - Neurobiology

      MPI for Biological Intelligence & LMU Munich | 2018 - 2024

Explored neural computations and encoding of visual and movement information in mice with virtual reality and ML.

Read my dissertation here: Visual stimulus tuning in mouse primary visual cortex in freely moving immersive virtual reality

Bachelor of Science - Biomedical Engineering

      Duke University | 2012 - 2016

Studied biomedical engineering, biocompatible electronics, and brain-computer interfaces.
